Technical Applications Specialist

Your Role:


As a Technical Applications Specialist you will support the growth of our custom products business by providing customer facing technical activities. It is imperative that we provide best in class technical support to our customers. This role would provide resources to maintain and increase these activities across the globe in the form of incoming call and email support through assay / experimental design and troubleshooting. Additionally, the role will require occasional attendance of seminars and conferences and regular interaction with key opinion leaders.


Duties will include: 

  • Provide technical product support for Merck Custom Products Oligonucleotide service to both external and internal (Merck) customers
  • Design of Dual-Labelled and other probes for Quantitative PCR and ddPCR
  • Design of Standard PCR primers
  • Search and extraction of CRISPR gRNA designs from our algorithm based on customer gene requests for SygRNA
  • Technical discussion and Quotation of custom SygRNA customer requests
  • Technical evaluation of customer complaints that cannot be dealt with locally and to feedback data to local contacts on complaints that have required further analytical investigation (product returns)
  • Attendance of key exhibitions and conferences, which have a strong focus on Merck Custom Products range
  • Assist in key account visits where product quality or technical expertise have been identified as potential opportunities to maintaining or growing current sales
  • Assist on phone calls or conference calls/visits with Inside Sales Team where product quality or technical expertise have been identified as potential opportunities to maintaining or growing current sales
  • Assist in production and delivery of training material and technical seminars for existing and new Merck Custom Products and services
  • Assist customer support groups in the production of quotations, ensuring that the customer requirements are matched with production capabilities and product specification meets the required level for the desired application
  • Develop and deliver workshop events including scientific seminars and practical training at remote locations
  • Facilitate and maintain key customer collaborations where these can be seen to support business objectives
  • Work closely with Operations/Production/Quality Managers at Merck Custom Products manufacturing sites to feedback key customer data to ensure that the company maintains its leadership in Quality and Service


Who you are: 


Successful candidates will have:

  • Customer facing experience within a technical related role
  • Ability and knowledge to communicate with experienced scientists
  • Extensive experience using PCR and qPCR
  • A working knowledge of siRNA and shRNA technologies
  • Experience and hands on knowledge of gene editing technologies
  • Experience or working knowledge of ddPCR
  • Experience or working knowledge of Next Gen and Sanger sequencing beneficial
  • Working knowledge of proteomics techniques including library screening and quantitation
  • A background in technical support or sales of life science derived consumables, ideally with experience in the custom oligonucleotide market
