Your Role: 

EMD Electronics is immediately hiring for a Safety Specialist for its MEGASYS® team in Austin, TX!  This is a challenging, hands-on, rewarding job opportunity for people who want to join a growing business.  

 

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for the safe operation of assigned chemical and/or gas distribution systems, with duties including: 

  • Developing and maintaining company inspection reports for safety and quality 
  • Auditing operations and maintenance areas according to quality and safety standards. 
  • Ensuring processes and procedures comply with company standards as well as Federal and State law. 
  • Validating all test equipment is calibrated and working correctly 
  • Reporting quality and safety issues immediately via the escalation process 
  • Collating test drafting quality and safety reports 
  • Assisting in root cause analysis investigation and resolution 
  • Identifying possible areas for improvement in quality control processes and safety 
  • Ensuring Operations is executing their task with Safety and Quality on each shift  

 

Physical Attributes: 

  • Walking throughout the facility for 75% of shift (5-6 miles per day) 
  • Climbing of ladders up to 12-foot-tall (utilizing fall protection) 
  • Basic lifting (up to 40lbs) 
  • Bending of the knees and overhead reaching 

  

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or Safety & Occupational Health  with 3+ years of experience in a safety or OSHA position 

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED with 5+ years of experience in a safety or OSHA and OSHA 30 certification

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health, Construction Management, or other technical Field  
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite 
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) 
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge 
  • Experience in ISO9000 / ISO9001 
  • Knowledge of measurement 
  • Understanding of engineering drawings 
  • Understanding manufacturing processes 
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment 
  • Planning and prioritizing activities 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Problem-solving skills and Root Cause Analysis (5-Why, Fishbone) 
  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices (Strong OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, DOT or PSM Experience) 
  • Team working skills 
  • Analytical skills 
  • Ability to work on own initiative 

 

Pay Range for this position: $74,800-$112,200/year

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. Position may be eligible for sales or performance-based bonuses. Benefits offered by the Company include health insurance, paid time off (PTO), retirement contributions, and other perquisites.
