Your Role:

As a Director of the Virology & Microbiological Sciences (VMS) R&D team, you lead a team of managers, scientists and laboratory technicians responsible for all aspects of microbiological testing activities conducted to support new and existing biosafety products. You will effectively allocate and lead resources to ensure project activities and laboratory testing are completed on time and at a high level of quality. You will guide your team to develop and validate new test equipment and methods. You will provide technical consultation on microbiological testing strategy, mentorship, support to aid in product qualification, producUprocess change requests, raw material qualifications and customer applications. You actively lead employee performance and identify and invest in training and development. You develop and maintain external contacts and position of influence in industry with professional/regulatory organizations. You will engage with product development teams, manufacturing sites, commercial teams and other business partners. This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.

 

Who You Are:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS in Biology, Microbiology or Virology with 10+ years of professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing a lab-based team with scientists, including employee performance evaluations and development
  • Strong understanding of biopharmaceutical process requirements, customer applications, good practices and industry standards
  • Demonstrated efficiency in advancing new technologies and successful method development experience
  • Good technical agility, expertise in data analysis, strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Results oriented and able to work with business partners to prioritize and provide a clear understanding of expectations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Microbiology or Virology with 7+ years of professional experience
  • Understanding of quality principles including ISO, quality management systems, Good Documentation Practices
  • Experience in leading capital projects and equipment upgrades
  • Experience in test method validations
  • Familiarity with MilliporeSigma filtration, chromatography and Mobius single-use products
  • Formal management training
  • Experience with budget planning
