The Head of Upstream/Fluid Management Platform Play is responsible for the end-to-end strategic and operational leadership of the upstream processing (USP) platform and Fluid Management portfolio, covering hardware, flexware, services, software & automation solutions for the BioPharma industry. The role reports into the Head of Integrated Platform Solutions, part of Process Solutions.

 

You will focus on business execution, strategic partnerships, and portfolio transformation, ensuring the upstream and FLUID MANAGEMENT portfolios are positioned for long-term success through partnerships, joint ventures, and GTM excellence. You have full P&L responsibility, managing all lines of the P&L globally, driving pricing strategies, investment decisions, long-range planning, and commercial execution. Success in this role requires a strong platform mindset, embedding flywheel principles, ecosystem partnerships, and external collaboration to scale the upstream business.

 

1. Business Leadership & P&L Ownership

·        Own and manage all lines of the P&L for the Upstream/Fluid Management Platform, ensuring top- and bottom-line growth.

·        Develop and execute investment strategies, optimizing resource allocation, business expansion, and profitability.

·        Lead pricing strategy, managing list pricing, margin optimization, and competitive positioning.

·        Define and drive long-range business planning, ensuring sustainable growth, innovation, and customer adoption.

2. Portfolio Strategy & Execution

·        Own the upstream and fluid management platform roadmap, ensuring alignment with modular and integrated solutions.

·        Embed platform and flywheel principles to optimize portfolio scalability, customer adoption, and recurring revenue streams.

·        Lead portfolio transformation, balancing legacy products with selected right-to-win areas

·        Ensure strong market intelligence, competitive analysis, and data-driven decision-making in portfolio evolution.

3. Strategic Partnerships

·        Lead external partnerships, securing strategic collaborations

·        Identify and execute selected strategic plays, leveraging partnerships for technology differentiation and commercial advantage.

·        Drive make-or-buy decisions, balancing in-house development, acquisitions, divestments, and external alliances.

·        Work closely with the Single-Use Assembly and Consumables teams, ensuring integration across product development, GTM execution, and service models.

4. GTM & Commercial Strategy

·        Develop and implement the go-to-market (GTM) strategy, ensuring strong market penetration and revenue growth.

·        Align GTM execution with regional commercial teams, ensuring customer-centric pricing, positioning, and adoption.

·        Develop a compelling value proposition and brand positioning for your portfolio

5. Innovation & Technology Leadership

·        Own the technology roadmap for upstream processing, ensuring alignment with automation, flexware, and consumables integration.

·        Work closely with Software, R&D, and Single-Use teams to develop scalable, modular solutions that enhance customer workflows.

·        Lead technology scouting and ecosystem partnerships, identifying opportunities to enhance the upstream portfolio.

6. Execution & Stakeholder Engagement

·        Ensure strong execution across a multi-national stakeholder network, translating strategy into measurable business outcomes.

·        Drive collaboration with Commercial, R&D, Quality, Operations, and Finance, ensuring seamless execution.

7. Leadership & Talent Development

·        Lead and develop a high-performing team of 5-6 direct reports, including strategic product managers and global product managers.

·        Foster a culture of collaboration, agility, and strategic execution within the team and across business units.

·        Build and mentor talent, ensuring future leadership capabilities and a strong execution mindset.

 

The preferred location for this role is Bedford, MA. This role can be fully remote with regular travel to the Bedford, MA site: 3 - 4 days monthly or bi-monthly. 

 

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years in product management, business leadership, or strategic portfolio management in bioprocessing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's and 6+ yrs experience, MBA and 6+ yrs experience, or PhD and 5+ years experience preferred
  • Scientific background preferred, with expertise in upstream processing, bioprocessing, and Fluid Management technologies in the Biopharma Industry.
  • Proven track record in strategic partnerships or joint ventures, and external alliances, with expertise in business development and technology scouting.
  • P&L leadership experience, managing investment strategies, pricing, and financial execution.
  • Experience in driving make-or-buy decisions, balancing internal development and external collaboration.
  • Global business leadership experience, with a track record of executing commercial and GTM strategies.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with expertise in market intelligence, competitive analysis, and business modeling.
  • Cross-functional leadership experience, particularly in aligning software, consumables, and product strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead high-performing teams in direct and matrix environments.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, up to 20%

 

Pay Range for this position: $160,400 - $281,200

 

Our ranges are derived from several sources, and largely reliant on relevant industry market data. Should we decide to make an offer, we will consider several factors, including but not limited to your location, skills, experience, career level, and other job-related factors.  This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; paid time off; and paid holidays; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses.
