Your Role:
We are currently seeking a Packaging Engineer 3 within the Downstream R&D group at MilliporeSigma Process Solutions business unit located in Bedford, MA. In this position, the individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams and be responsible for supporting multiple concurrent projects for packaging needs for new products, line extensions, product updates and packaging improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with colleagues early in development stage to ensure robust packaging and on-time product launches
- Support cross-functional teams comprising R&D, Project & Product management, quality, supply chain and regulatory to ensure project success
- Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and actual products to determine physical characteristics, special handling/environmental/safety concerns, types of materials, design features and necessary testing to meet packaging development and safe product launch goals
- Work independently, with internal team and external suppliers as appropriate to design and qualify packaging components and systems that comply with business and sustainability goals
- Develop test plans, facilitate testing programs internally and externally, interpret and report results, and make recommendations to the team
- Trouble-shoot and resolve new and existing packaging issues involving designs, materials, and processes through creative, timely and cost-effective solutions
- Effectively supports Packaging Lab to resolve problems with machines, materials, and processes.

Who You Are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline and 5+ years of work experience
OR
- Master’s Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline and 3+ years of work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of various protective packaging materials, structures and technologies related to paperboard, corrugated fiberboard, flexible films, foam and thermoform.
- Experience with Package Design Verification and Validation including Packaging Usability, Transportation and Handling testing
- Understanding of quality management system controls (e.g., user needs, design inputs/outputs, verification/validation, etc.)
- Knowledge in 3D CAD, SolidWorks, or Artios CAD software.
- Experience with ASTM, ISTA, ISO standards.
- Experience with 49CFR capability testing.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
