Your Role: 

Join our team at MilliporeSigma as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Scientist-III in Bedford, MA. In this role, you'll develop innovative imaging techniques for analyzing microstructures and surfaces, essential for product development and troubleshooting within our Process Solutions R&D group. You will lead imaging projects, manage timelines, ensure lab safety, and maintain equipment. Collaborate with our senior imaging expert and potentially mentor junior staff. Your expertise in SEM, Light Microscopy, microtomy, and ultra-microtomy, along with an understanding of Image Analysis, will help address manufacturing issues and advance our R&D efforts. Approximately 75% of your role will be lab-based, driving projects forward through innovation. 

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) or Engineering (Chemical, Manufacturing, etc.) with 5+ years of research lab experience

OR

  • Master’s Degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) or Engineering (Chemical, Manufacturing, etc.) with 3+ years of research lab experience

OR

  • Ph. D. in Science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) or Engineering (Chemical, Manufacturing, etc.) with 1+ years of research lab experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in in the fields of polymer materials or biological sciences 
  • Experience in advanced imaging techniques, demonstrating expertise in SEM and Light Microscopy
  • Proficiency in using image analysis software
  • Familiarity with Image Pro and Amira platforms
  • Skills in 3D reconstruction 
  • Skills in ultramicrotomy for polymer and biological samples
  • Experience in imaging and thorough defect analysis and investigation of both porous and solid media, including membranes and films
  • Capability of performing surface profilometry and interpreting key metrics such as average roughness and RMS
  • Strong communication skills, adept at analyzing data, generating detailed reports, and presenting complex findings effectively
  • Experience with current imaging technologies
