Senior BioProcessing Automation Engineer, Single-Use & Integrated Systems R&D (USA)

MilliporeSigma is looking for a Senior BioProcessing Automation Engineer to join the Single-Use & Integrated System R&D organization.  This individual will take the lead to drive the hands-on bioprocessing automation nd control development activities on project teams from initial product concept through final commercialization.  The Senior BioProcessing Automation Engineer will influence new product design by working with a cross functional team of software, hardware, and process engineering experts to develop the requirements, test the performance, and define the solutions for new product automation, control, and user interface effectiveness.  The focus of this role will initially target single-use bioreactors.  We look forward to developing your expertise and growth in our dynamic and exciting team!

This position will be based at our Bedford, MA campus.

Your Role: 

  • Work on a cross-functional team to deliver state-of-the-art components, products, and/or solutions for single-use equipment used in the bioprocessing industry.
  • Plan, set up, and execute laboratory experiments using mixers, bioreactors, or test fixtures to simulate or directly evaluate the performance of new technologies, new automation strategies, or new product or component prototypes
  • Define process control strategies and automation requirements for software and user interface design
  • Research literature and attend conferences to keep current with the bioprocessing end user’s process design targets, performance expectations, and general bioprocessing needs
  • Deliver internal and external written literature and presentations evaluating product designs and/or summarizing experimental results with a focus on technical performance.

 Who you Are:

Minimum Requirements

  • You have experience with setting up and executing automation and control strategies (recipe writing, PID loop tuning, establishing coordinated or cascade control loops)
  • You possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering (or related discipline) with 9 years of direct product development or biomanufacturing process develop
  • You possess a Master’s Degree in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering (or related discipline) with 7 years of direct product development or biomanufacturing process develop
  • You possess a Ph.D. Degree in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering (or related discipline) with 4 years of direct product development or biomanufacturing process develop

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology industry experience (CGLP or CGMP)
  • Experience operating a bioreactor, mixer, or other bioprocessing skid
  • Excellent problem solving & analytical skills, including data modeling, DoE, and/or statistical analysis
  • Excellent teamwork, and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with peers, customers, vendors, and managers
  • Domestic and international travel may be required
