Your Role

We are seeking a senior and strategic communications professional for the role of Associate Director of External Communications. In this role, you will be responsible for leading key external communication initiatives aimed at enhancing the company’s visibility, reputation, and engagement with media, industry influencers, and other external stakeholders. You will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align communication efforts with our corporate strategy, positioning our brand at the forefront of the life sciences sector. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive external communication strategies that support the company’s goals and enhance its reputation across key markets. 

  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson and manage relationships with top-tier media, industry influencers, and trade publications. Proactively pitch stories and position the company as a thought leader in life sciences. 

  • Content Creation and Storytelling: Lead the development and distribution of press releases, corporate announcements, and other key communications such as annual reports. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and compelling messaging. 

  • Reputation Management: Monitor industry trends and media coverage to assess the company’s reputation. Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership on emerging issues, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to protect and enhance the company’s image. 

  • Crisis Communications: Act as primary communication contact related to crisis communications, developing and implementing protocols and responses in collaboration with the internal team, safeguarding the company’s reputation in high-stakes situations. 

  • Media Monitoring and Reporting: Lead the analysis of media coverage and effectiveness of communication strategies. Provide actionable insights and regular reports to leadership. 

 

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field, and/or 8+ years related experience

  • 8+ years of experience in external communications, media relations, or public relations within a multinational company or agency environment. 

  • Global external communications experience

  • Proven track record in building relationships with top-tier media and successfully positioning company stories in major outlets. 

  • Strong experience in crisis communications and media management. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content that resonates with external audiences. 

  • Experience in Life Sciences, Pharma, Biotech or related industry 

  • Strong organizational and project management abilities with a capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. 

  • Experience with media monitoring tools and digital platforms. 

  • Ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations and work collaboratively across global departments and regions. 

  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a passion for storytelling. 

 

Must be able to work in Burlington, MA office on a hybrid basis
