You Role:

As the Senior Manager, Internal Communications, Life Science, you will support both the strategic development and tactical delivery needs – consistent with both the Life Science Communications and internal communications strategies – for our Life Science organization. As a leader reporting to the Global Head of Internal Communications, you will be a key member of the Internal Communications team and work closely with leaders and employees at all levels to ensure that our communication is clear, consistent, and aligned with the company’s goals and values. Key responsibilities include:  

  • Create and deliver compelling content that engages employees and strengthens the company’s culture
  • Drive collaboration and alignment with Internal Communications activities across the LS Communications team to ensure our editorial calendar submissions are current and updated. Collaborate with both the Internal Communications team and LS Communications partners to ensure relevant roadmap activity is updated and content opportunities are visible to LS Communications
  • Partner with Internal Communications business partners in the strategic development and effective delivery of senior leadership (and their associated teams) communications plans, projects, and initiatives, driving strategic project activities in line with business priorities, including leadership projects and events
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and achieve impactful, high-quality results. Communicate change initiatives, organizational changes, and other project-related communications to provide an understanding of broader organizational context and address anticipated employee questions
  • Provide strategic and executional leadership for our internal channels including our intranet (EVA), leveraging our Microsoft O365 communications platforms, managing Merck Newsletter Tool access and appropriate use, and evaluating new communications opportunities in emerging tech areas (AI, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the Global Head of Internal Communications in aligning Life Science strategy and priorities with our Life Science Communications strategy and Internal Communications team strategy, ensuring core themes and threads are repeatable and consistent in company communications
  • Collaborate with the Global Head of Internal Communications in managing and driving internal team initiatives to strengthen our processes, drive self-service communications options for commodity activities, and develop the elements of our Internal Communications playbook

 

In this role you will closely collaborate with the Life Science Leadership team, the global Communications team, and diverse stakeholders across various functions and sectors.  You will find success if you possess a high-impact, well organized, results-driven working style and ownership mentality, and thrive in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization with a dynamic team.

 

Who You Are

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Communications field, with a strong background in internal communications, project management, and leading communications initiatives
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and advise diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Life Science industry
  • Cultural awareness and message sensitivity required to proficiently communicate with a diverse, global organization
  • Familiarity with creating and managing KPIs for communications effectiveness
  • Strong analytical skills required to analyze complex situations and identify key issues
  • Strong process acumen and strong project management skills
  • Ability to be collaborative and deliver within tight deadlines,in a global, matrixed organization
  • Proactiveness and delivery mindset focused on executing outcomes
  • Ability to optimize processes and implement improvements to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
  • Extensive experience utilizing digital and multimedia systems and tools
  • Proficient in multiple languages
