Millipore Sigma is seeking an Upstream Process Development Scientist (PDS) to join the Technical and Scientific Solutions Team in the Americas region, based in the US. This is a New England-based position, with regular travel to various internal and regional customer sites. The role will be part of a global team of engineers and scientists, supporting customers in exploring and implementing Millipore Sigma’s technologies and reporting to the technical support group for the Process Solutions business. The ideal candidate will have industry experience as a scientist or engineer, with knowledge of upstream bioprocess unit operations, particularly in fed-batch and perfusion applications.
Your Role:
· You will act as a technical partner and consultant to our end users, providing proactive technical collaboration and best practices guidance for Millipore Sigma’s cell expression technologies (CHO, Sf9, HEK, etc.), cell culture media, and process development and optimization, as well as scale-up and implementation of upstream applications.
· You will assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed upstream technical applications through experimental, material, and/or consultative support of upstream process development activities. You will also support perfusion, bioreactor, and process analytical tools (PAT) technologies from initial screenings to late stage implementations, with a responsibility to independently design, direct and review experiments to understand process sensitivity/limitations, while critically analyzing data to troubleshoot application and operational issues.
· You will collaborate with our commercial team, R&D, and marketing teams to provide the voice of customers, market trends, thought leadership, and alignment of go-to-market strategies.
· You will interact with local and global colleagues to ensure a common “Best Practices” technical approach for upstream application development and implementation and drive continuous improvement in both tools and methodologies.
· You will report on all field activities in CRM software and other internal project databases.
Who you are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, chemistry or biochemistry/molecular biology with 5+ years of experience within biopharmaceutical development or technology implementation
OR
- Master’s Degree or PhD in chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, chemistry or biochemistry/molecular biology with 3+ years of industry related biopharmaceutical development experience
- Hands-on experience in upstream processing of biotherapeuticsmonoclonal with an antibodies and vaccines focus
- Relevant upstream biotherapeutics development and/or manufacturing experience
- Willingness to travel up to 40% to customer or internal sites, including the possibility of international travel
- Fluent in verbal and written English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cell and viral gene therapies experience
- In-depth knowledge of the development, scale up and implementation of upstream applications and technologies, including technologies for intensified processing and process analytics
- cGMP experience
- Experience in intensified processing and process analytical tools
- Demonstration of solid data analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Strong project and time management skills
- Proven demonstration of proactive, independent project planning and execution
- Experience working in matrixed global organization
- Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic systems as well as computer hardware and software
- Experience with operating software and hardware from multiple vendors for upstream monitoring and control
- Experience with any relevant Millipore Sigma equipment
Role ideally based in Burlington, MA office on a hybrid basis

Pay Range for this position: $102,400 - $164,800
