Analytical Laboratory Manager

Your Role:

EMD Electronics in Carlsbad, CA is seeking an Analytical Laboratory Manager to provide leadership for the Quality Control (QC) team.  You will be responsible for leading the site QC functions, providing technical support to advance quality and analytical requirements, and daily analytical support for the site. This position will help drive continuous improvement initiatives to build a best-in-class chemical analytical laboratory and support the company goal of achieving and maintaining a hazard free workplace, injury free employees, and an unmatched commitment to environmental stewardship.  This position is also expected to be involved in the site crisis management organization.


Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Chemistry or chemistry related
  • 5+ years of experience working in an Analytical Lab (preferably chemical)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervise activities of personnel engaged in performing chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products
  • Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials
  • Consults with laboratory personnel to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget allowances, condition of existing equipment and scheduled laboratory activities
  • Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions
  • Confers with scientists or engineers to conduct analyses, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
  • Lead the Laboratory daily workflow process
  • Lead and manage the laboratory employees in maintaining safety, quality and housekeeping standards of the site
  • Develops and implements Laboratory policies and procedures
  • Conduct research as needed to assist developing custom products and investigate complaints on existing products
  • Be familiar with ISO 9001/14001/45001 management systems. Be familiar with the Guiding Principles of Responsible Care®/RC14001 is a plus.


Knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Understanding of Operation and Troubleshooting of analytical equipment (GC, ICPMS, ICPOES, IC, NMR, etc)
  • Measurement System Analysis & requirements of Analytical Metrology
  • Problem-solving skills and Root Cause Analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, etc)
  • Understanding of Laboratory Health and Safety practices
  • Team working skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, SAP (or other ERP), LIMS
