Head of Supply Chain

Your Role:

The Carlsbad Viral and Gene Therapy manufacturing site is a contract manufacturing site that produces drug substance and drug products for gene therapy and oncology applications. Reporting directly to the Carlsbad Site Head, the successful candidate will develop and guide teams responsible for all aspects of Supply Chain including sourcing and procurement, production planning, GMP warehousing, logistics, and the MRP system. This includes driving appropriate analyses, providing strategic and tactical direction, and working with stakeholders to successfully enable on-time production of both new and ongoing client projects. The role is responsible for tracking KPIs including capacity utilization and on-time production, and for driving continuous improvements to internal processes and the client experience. This collaborative leader will be a key member of the site leadership team, driving strategic direction to develop and implement site plans, projects, and global initiatives. This position will also serve as the site interface with the corporate supply chain organization. The Head of Supply chain will represent the department during inspections and audits as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of the teams responsible for the MRP system, production planning, supply planning/purchasing, and materials management including GMP warehouses at two sites in Carlsbad
  • Development of production schedules, purchasing and sourcing strategy, and strategic planning projects with cross-functional teams
  • Forecasting and execution of the Supply Chain department budget, including all related projects and capital purchases
  • Identification and understanding of capacity constraints in the external supply chain (suppliers and intra-company), collaboration with Purchasing and Technical Operations to eliminate or mitigate constraints
  • Management of raw material flow into the warehouse, ensuring a timely and predictable supply to production areas, and flow of finished goods out of the warehouse
  • Partnering with the Commercial, Operations, and Project Management teams to drive site-level decisions in the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process, and representing Supply Chain interests with operations leadership, business partners, and other supply chain professionals within the corporate structure
  • Ownership of the Site ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains)

 

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in business or technical field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Biotech/Pharma manufacturing operations, with 7+ years of direct experience in Supply Chain (planning, purchasing, warehousing, shipping)
  • 3+ years of experience leading, managing, and developing teams
  • Strong quantitative skills, with ability to consolidate and formulate complex data into sound recommendations to drive business decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with regulatory authorities, major customers, suppliers, corporate procurement group, and senior executives within the organization
  • Proven leadership ability in dynamic, project-driven settings, working with management and diverse employee populations to lead Supply Chain initiatives in a matrix organization
  • Capable of identifying known or potential hazards and developing corrective and preventive implementation plans with EHS partners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP, SAP, Oracle or an ERP equivalent

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • APICS or equivalent certification
  • Experience in a contract manufacturing environment
  • Experience creating and managing a budget including resource allocation and prioritization
  • Experience with managing supply chain functions through a major capital project or during a rapid growth phase
  • Ability to provide professional problem solving input to both short-term and long-term issues, including root cause analysis to determine specific actions needed to prevent reoccurrence
  • Strong technical writing skills, including authorship and revision of GMP Supply Chain related SOPs
