Automation Manager (m/f)

For this, you need to understand the complex business need and assist in defining the solutions to support any future business. You will drive Project on new technology and Manage related change control and will provide proactive support to our key customers’ requirements. Ensure the deployment, changes, upgrades and support for e-systems in compliance with GMP on this system. 


Your role:  As part of the digital technologies team and in close collaboration with global and local Engineering, Production, IT, Digital, and Quality departments (global and local organizations), you will lead the specification, implementation, qualification and commissioning and operation of process automation activities for a biopharmaceutical development and cGMP clinical production plant. This position will develop requirements and specifications for control and automation systems and engage with external IT and OT solution providers and select fit for purpose technologies.   

The candidate will identify, assess and implement relevant existing and emerging industry and company standards. This role will collaborate with production equipment vendors and drive standardization of integration options. The candidate will develop, implement, and maintain IT/OT integration solutions that enable next level of digitalization maturity in our plant and implement “Connected Plant” (vertically integrated OT Assets and IT Systems). This position will collaborate with the Global Automation team to align the project strategy with the corporate vision.  

More specifically you will: 

  • drive as project manager the automation related activities all around the project phase 
  • lead the Automation Team and external integrators to succesfully deliver on time and on buget automation scope of BDC Project 
  • ensure succesful commissioning and qualification of all automation systems in BDC project scope working closely with CQV manager and manager 
  • be the system owner for automation and industrial control systems assets 
    support vertical integration of equipment to ISA-95 L3 systems such as MES and Data Historian 
  • drive continuous improvement of the existing automation solutions and processes 
  • drive delivery of automation projects as part of system lifecycle and site expansions 
  • drive integration of equipment to industrial IT infrastructure backbone
  • drive integration of stand-alone devices to middleware or management platforms 
  • drive OT Cyber Security awareness and implementation of technologies and processes 
  • assure that cGMP and EHS regulations are respected throughout the entire process 
  • ensure technical competency of the Automation Team and ensure the team maintains up-to-date skills and capabilities through training and other skills enhancement activities   
  • assure adequate SLAs with internal and external suppliers (incl. IT department) 
  • prepare annual budget plans for the site automation activities (CAPEX and OPEX)


Who you are 

  • Graduate degree or more in a scientific or engineering discipline (industrial automation, robotics,) or equivalent  
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in industrial automation spread across multiple employers 
  • Leading automation team and system integrators (5 years+) 
  • Process control within pharmaceutical environment (5 years+) 
  • cGMP guidelines and regulations for computerized systems (3 years+) 
  • IT/OT infrastructure, equipment connectivity, data integrity, and cyber security 
  • Industry leading standards: IEC-61512/ISA-95, IEC-61499/ISA-88, IEC-62443/ISA-99 
  • Vertical integration of equipment to ISA-95 /L3 systems such as Data Historian (OSIsoft PI) MES (Werum PAS-X), PAT, SIMCA, Discoverant,… 
  • Experience with Process Control Systems (PCS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Building Management Systems (BMS), Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS), Fire Protection Systems, Video Surveillance (CCTV), Intrusion Detection Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). integration,  
  • Biotech industry experience in a GMP environment strongly preferred 
  • Experienced in project management (3 years +), certification is a strong advantage 
  • Emerging technology trends and practices 
  • cGMP and EHS regulatory requirements 
  • Fluency in English and French (other languages are of advantage)
