Responsibilities include:

The Director, Head of Chemistry Automation and Services will be part of the CEO's leadership team of AI and automation for drug discovery, a newly formed internal venture responsible for the development of transformational AI-enabled software and a full automation robotics ecosystem for drug discovery. You will lead the automation chemistry vertical for providing drug discovery and chemistry services to Pharmaceutical and Biotech customers.


You will be responsible to:

  • Lead a team of laboratory automation engineers to build a full chemistry laboratory automation ecosystem for R&D environments. 
  • Hire and manage a cross-functional team of automation engineers, chemists, lab technicians, QA, data integration scientist, and support team
  • Establish and manage chemistry laboratory automation facility for HT chemical synthesis using off-the-shelf and in-house solutions for R&D and production environments. 
  • Initiate and manage the company-wide automation project and integration with relevant up- and down-stream AI cheminformatics and automation software.
  • Lead automation project planning, timeline, milestones, success criteria and resources management including engineers, equipment, lab space etc. for new lab build-outs.
  • Manage vendor relations with scientific partners, and automation solution providers, to build in-house chemistry automation expertise.
  • Own long-term services strategy, define measurable KPIs, build metric reports and dashboards for executives and present achievement roadmap to key team members.
  • Position our services with key budget holders and decision makers within R&D and proactively identify opportunities to sign strategic multi-year agreements as well as tactical services.
  • Develop strong and strategic client relationships within target accounts as well as relevant external partners (i.e. Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Device companies, CRO's, etc.)

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters’ Degree in Chemical Automation Engineering and relevant engineering fields
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant corporate experience in Life Science, Pharma or Biotechnology industry
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams in matrix organizations across geographies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in establishing automation for drug discovery application in Life Science/Pharma
  • Hands-on working experience in HT scale chemistry, in the areas of medicinal /organic chemistry and use of in-line equipment for auto sampling, synthesis, purification, analysis is desirable.
  • Experience with automation project development from concept, preliminary and final design, through construction, installation and project closure strongly preferred with cost analysis.
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment, agile and face-paced teams
  • Self-driven, results-oriented leader with proven collaborative working style
