Head of Pricing

The Head of Pricing for UK and Ireland will be responsible for the proactive development and implementation of pricing strategy for our leading current and future brands, in order to optimise revenue and profitability for the company.

 

This individual will:

 

  • Be the expert on pricing Governance in the organisation and will regularly reinforce the rules that sit around it.
  • Be responsible for horizon scanning future pricing opportunities and risks for our brands.
  • Take the lead on patient access and managed entry schemes, developing a range of solutions for HTA and the Cancer Drugs Fund/Innovative Medicines Fund.
  • Look to use the VPAS and other pricing agreements strategically to drive maximum return for the overall business.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of pricing strategies and actively engage in industry group discussions on pricing related policies to shape the future operating environment

Key Accountabilities

  • Work with BUs, finance, commercial, HEOR, Commercial Operations (Customer Insights and Business Intelligence) and other cross-functional teams to:
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies for each key brand
  • Communicate the developing competitor pricing landscape and formulate and implement strategies to address potential opportunities and risks
  • Present and discuss optional Patient Access Schemes (PASs) and Commercial/Managed Access agreements (MAA/CAAs)
  • Track progress of the development of any price agreements (VPAS, Statutory Scheme, Supply and IPHA/DoH framework agreement  in Ireland) through industry groups and any market intelligence.
  • Lead on investigating how we could use the VPAS creatively to optimise the return that we get from our products
  • To lead on the approval and management of prices in COSMOS and PRISM (Merck global and local price approval systems, respectively)
  • Respond to various pricing requests from Global/other affiliates/other colleagues
  • To be responsible for acquiring detailed information regarding competitor pricing landscape and developing strategies to take advantage of any opportunities and defend against potential risk.
  • To work closely with the Business units and Commercial Operations to design and commission any required pricing research
  • Take a lead at looking at alternative funding routes outside conventional ones (NICE/SMC etc,), where appropriate
  • Crafting and implementation of LoE pricing strategies
  • Management of engagement and negotiations with payors particularly with regard to tenders and commercial contracts
  • Respond to other BU pricing needs as required
  • Form relationships with European and Global teams to influence decisions and wider pricing strategy that could be passed onto the UK for local implementation
  • Communicating UK pricing strategy to wider non-UK teams as needed
  • To comply with all UK regulatory guidelines and company SOPs in relation to the 2021 ABPI Code of Practice, IPHA, MHRA and all other authorities related to your functional position. 

Candidate Profile

 

  • Educated to degree level standard (preferably in a life science)
  • 5 years+ experience in a Pricing/Market Access/Health Economic role
  • Experience in pricing strategy
  • Ideally has experience in either oncology, neurology or fertility
  • Clear evidence of multidisciplinary team working
  • Creative thinking
  • Excellent communication skills and project management
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
  • Leadership
  • Managing successful relationships with agencies
  • Prepared to undertake some travel in England and European and some time away from home
