Your Role

 

The Automated Equipment Specialist II is an experienced level position within the Automated Equipment Maintenance team. The Automated Equipment Maintenance team primarily focuses on the maintenance of equipment that operates autonomously or with minimal human intervention, such as robotics, conveyor systems, and automated assembly lines. Maintenance of automated equipment often requires specialized knowledge of software, sensors, controllers, and other components specific to automation technology. Automated equipment maintenance may heavily rely on predictive maintenance techniques, leveraging data from sensors and IoT devices to predict equipment failures and schedule maintenance proactively. Automated Equipment maintenance involves maintaining the integration of automated equipment with other systems, such as data networks, control systems, and software interfaces. Compared to manufacturing maintenance, automated equipment maintenance requires a higher degree of specialization in modern automation technologies. Duties Include:

 

  • Daily intermediate level preventive and breakdown maintenance of automated production equipment - mechanically, pneumatically, and electrically.
  • Perform intermediate-level maintenance activities on automated equipment including manufacturing equipment and manufacturing equipment control systems, laboratory equipment control systems, robotic systems, etc.
  • Intermediate level knowledge base of the above systems that require minimal human intervention, the software, controllers, and other components.
  • Automated Equipment Specialist maintains the integration of automated equipment with other systems, such as data networks, control and safety control systems, and software interfaces.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance techniques and leverage data from sensors and electronic devices to drive proactive maintenance activities and predict/prevent equipment failures.
  • Complete tasks that are more specialized than routine maintenance activities due to the modern automation technologies which include integrated data networks, control systems, and software interfaces.
  • Diagnose intermediate level automated equipment malfunctions and perform needed repairs.
  • Support operational efficiency by minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring a clean, safe workspace; collaborate cross-functionally to optimize preventative maintenance, contribute to continuous improvement and equipment validation efforts, proactively address safety and productivity concerns, and communicate effectively across shifts to resolve issues.

 

Physical requirements

 

  • Physical flexibility to interact with and troubleshoot machinery and equipment.
  • Exposure to chemical reagents.
  • Use hand and power tools.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of 26 - 50 lbs.
  • Bend, squat, stoop, and kneel.
  • Pinch, grasp, and manipulate objects consistently and regularly.
  • Fine motor skills are required.

 

 

Who You Are

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • 3+ years of automated manufacturing equipment maintenance.
  • High school diploma or GED.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • 5+ years automated manufacturing equipment maintenance or related experience within an ISO certified or cGMP manufacturing environment.
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical/electrical technology or related technical field.
  • Intermediate Electro-Mechanical and controls knowledge along with experience applying this knowledge to process/equipment design and troubleshooting.
  • Proven mechanical, machine tool, and automated equipment repair skills.
  • Experience and ability to become a Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW).
  • Familiarity with EH&S, ISO, cGMP, and other regulatory requirements in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings and P&IDs, apply safe work practices (e.g., lockout/tagout, electrical safety), create and edit CAD schematics, mentor junior technicians, and leverage Lean/Six Sigma principles; proficient in Microsoft products with hands-on experience in robotics (e.g., teaching/touch-up) and capable of passing on-site mechanical and controls aptitude tests.
