Head of Business & Technology Development, Life Science Chemistry

Your Role: The Life Science Chemistry Head of Business & Technology Development has a high strategic impact in achieving annual revenue and strategic goals set by the business. You will have a unique opportunity to report into both the Head of R&D, Life Science Chemistry and Head of Business Development, Research Solutions. You will contribute to the formulation of franchise business strategy, maintaining alignment with business priorities. Partnering cross-functionally, you will develop a comprehensive analysis of key market segments to target for technology or product acquisition. You are responsible for leading a team forming partnerships with thought leaders for technology and application development as well as with KOL networks to be given first rights of refusal to new, targeted technology platforms and product opportunities. The Head of Business & Technology Development acts as counsel and voice of customer to senior/executive management to inform business strategy and product roadmaps; participates in key planning meetings. You will assess and elevate important technology opportunities to management, drive discussions, and ensures seamless transition of opportunity to business development. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead business development, technology development team and scientific collaboration network for Life Science Chemistry to accelerate innovation.
  • Ensure the team is aligned with priorities in identifying and executing in- and out-licensing opportunities.
  • Manage the overall funnel of in-licensing leads, OEM and distribution, M&A, and conversion process: opportunity identification, management of relationships with partners, negotiation of deal terms, effective execution of internal processes to enable successful market launch.
  • Ensure process for identifying and communicating potential technology opportunities to internal teams is effective and efficient.
  • Partner with R&D and franchise innovation leaders to improve the performance of the in-licensing process and identify/implement new, customer-relevant technologies.
  • Ensure the team is partnering with product management & R&D to manage existing collaborative relationships and creation of new relationships.
  • Ensure team manages processes and stakeholders for maximum efficiency.
  • Manage the overall strategy and process for out-licensing of company-owned and sublicensable technology.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of company capabilities for proper evaluation of strategic/ technical / cultural fit of product and technologies.

 

Location is flexible within the United States, preferably located close to one of our site hubs (Burlington, MA, Milwaukee, WI, and St. Louis, MO).

 

Who you are:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a scientific field with 10+ years professional experience
  • Experience working with scientific researchers
  • Experience in sourcing new products and technologies specific to the life science industry
  • Demonstrated success in effectively influencing across multiple levels of internal and external customers
  • Experience negotiation and deal-making skills
  • Open to travel, including international, up to 40% of time (when safe)

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8+ years working with scientific researchers
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading a high performing, diversely located team
  • Demonstrated excellence in internal collaboration and communication, with proven ability to respectfully and transparently communicate across all functions
  • Desired: Experience serving on external scientific advisory boards
  • influencing within a matrixed environment
  • Strong business acumen and customer orientation
  • Strong networking and intelligence gathering skills
  • Excellence in problem resolution skills, able to overcome barriers to success through complex and self-initiated problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multitask
