Associate Scientist II

Your role:

 

The Associate Scientist II (slide scorer) will evaluate chromosome aberrations or micronucleus cytotoxicity in rat or mouse bone marrow. The ASII will also evaluate DNA degradation as part of the comet assay, make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks/documentation and ensure all documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.  He/she will maintain an understanding of technological principles and applications of the organization’s services.

  • Responsible for having a basic knowledge of lab policies and assays
  • Conducts pre-designed assays using basic laboratory techniques and skills
  • Independently conducts assigned test procedures within constraints of lab scheduling
  • Evaluate cytogenetic endpoints using a microscope/
  • Follow sops and relevant compliance regulations regarding safety procedures, documentation, and scientific responsibility
  • Independently analyzes data and interprets results
  • Advise supervisor of factors that may affect quality and usefulness of data
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, protocols, processes and equipment
  • Maintains thorough records as well as peer review of assay batch records
  • Assists in training new staff members in performance of routine lab tasks
  • Use and maintain scientific equipment, instrumentation and computer systems
  • Demonstrate consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees, management and clients (where applicable)
  • Maintains good sterile and tissue culture techniques
  • Exercises judgment and determines appropriate action of known factors that may affect the conduct of the assay
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Who you are:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (i.e. Biology, chemistry, etc.) With 1+ years of working laboratory experience – OR -
  • Associate’s degree in a scientific discipline (i.e. Biology, chemistry, etc.) With 3+ years of working laboratory experience

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of a research laboratory
  • Experience evaluating chromosome aberrations, micronucleus induction or DNA analysis
  • Ability to analyze data and interpret results
  • Possess good interpersonal and strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented with good organizational skills
  • Possess the ability to multitask and work independently or in a team environment with minimum supervision
  • Good computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database software applications, specifically MS office (Word and Excel) and Minitab
