Executive Director, Head of China Innovation Hub (all genders)

We are looking for a visionary leader, responsible for setting and driving the innovation agenda for the company in China in fields between and beyond what the group does today.


Your role:

You will have responsibility for finding and exploring new Innovation Fields for the company, generating concrete innovation projects within the Chinese Innovation Hubs as well as with the group’s broader organization and strong partners. Under your leadership, you drive the innovation pipeline successfully, also in collaboration with the Managing Directors of our business sectors, into meaningful business opportunities for the company in China and globally.

You also engage with the external innovation ecosystem in order to generate win-win long term partnerships and increase the innovation power of the company with universities, incumbent tech players, start-ups, consortia, research institutes and venture funds, by generating concrete innovation projects. You are able to envisage and execute on creating long term partnerships for mutual business success.

In addition, you are responsible to execute and scale all approved innovation projects in the China hubs, into successful, innovative businesses, in accordance to the established principles and governance.

You are a curious mind with passion for new science and technology and you create a common, shared purpose with the organization and beyond. You empower your teams through providing leadership and strategic direction and foster a culture of curiosity and collaboration.

You challenge and inspire your organization to grow and scale projects into successful business endeavors in a quick and agile way. You work in close collaboration with all group businesses to ensure alignment.

You are an excellent collaborator and naturally engage with public audiences as a high representant of the company. In your capacity of Executive Director of the China Innovation Hub you will be an integral part of the Country Council in China (the highest executive instance of the company in China). Here you are responsible for cross sectoral topics and projects, and you bring in the innovation power of our hubs at service of the long-term business objectives in China.

You are accountable for an organization of currently around 20 FTEs and a budget of around EUR 8 Mio. You constantly deliver on financial and cash KPIs as well as on people and strategy goals.


Who you are:

  • Science or engineering background in a relevant field (material science, life science, biotech or engineering) and/or in venture capital and business administration
  • Extensive experience within the Chinese innovation ecosystem as well as long international assignments required
  • Extensive business experience, leading a P&L, strong business acumen having founded and grown a sizeable business, constantly delivering on financial and strategic performance
  • Proven experience and track record in leading an Innovation, R&D, BD or Ventures organization
  • Authentic and passionate senior leader, with the ability to develop and communicate a strong vision, as well as aligning the organization and key stakeholders around it; you fire up the team
  • Strong lateral leadership capabilities, able to work collaboratively and effectively, drive results in collaboration with Chinese and global teams. Always able to see opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit with several key stakeholders and partners. Strong networker with academia, public, private and investment partners
  • Ability to lead and communicate with diverse teams; you are experienced and comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity and understand the necessary steps to de-risk and grow start-up businesses
  • Bold, impactful and inspiring communication style on all hierarchical levels
  • Strong in connecting and bonding with key senior stakeholders, both internally and externally
