Business Development Lead, Digital

 

We are seeking a talented Business Development Lead to join EMD Digital, Inc., an affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. As an industry leading science & technology company, we seek to solve the most challenging problems facing scientists today. Our team is working at the intersection of digital and science to develop a portfolio of digital products with the aim of speeding up the scientific process from discovery through commercialization.

Your Role:

As part of this digital business venture, you will have the opportunity to work in a face-paced, entrepreneurial environment to help bring our product strategy and vision to life. The ideal candidate is an accomplished professional in the healthcare business development space. You will need to be able to work with the Product Team of EMD Digital to source new partnership opportunities, to develop deal structures that accomplish the goals of the Product Team and negotiate the deal to a successful outcome for the business. Demonstration of the following behaviors is important, strong leadership, excellent communication skills with technical experts, the ability to creatively develop deal structures that allow for aligned incentives and successful business outcomes, the ability to understand and comment on legal documents, highly analytical and data driven thinking, and translating a strategic vision into action.

Who You Are:

 

Minimum Qualifications;

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in science, business or related field 8-15 years of professional experience. A minimum of 5+ years in a pharma/life science or digital organization. Negotiation experience in commercial deals >$1M. Ability to travel frequently l to key partners. Demonstrated success in participating in business development and sales initiativesFluency in financial matters, especially in finance flows for inorganic transactions. Collaborate with Product Development Leads in the Product Team to develop strategies and inorganic opportunities to execute those strategies. Lead efforts with Competitive Intelligence leads to scout potential BD partners. Develop relationships with the partner and cultivate transactions that meet the needs of the Product team. Past experience with negotiations and supporting transactions: including negotiating of contract language with the assistance of the Legal Team and negotiating financial terms with the assistance of the Finance Team. Manage the approval process for the transactions: including preparation of any presentation materials required for senior leadership. Work to transition the compliance with various agreements to members of the business and be available to assist with any follow-up items required after negotiation of the deal. Be outward facing in the Digital Healthcare, Advanced Materials and Life Sciences space to ensure that the company is at the forefront of these technology investments, and to promote Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany as a digital company. Frequent travel to key partners, up to 50% (domestically and internationally) is expected. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in science, business or related field. 8-15 years of professional experience. A minimum of 5+ years in a pharma/life science or digital organization. Negotiation experience in commercial deals >$1M Ability to travel frequently l to key partners. Demonstrated success in participating in business development and sales initiatives. Fluency in financial matters, especially in finance flows for inorganic transactions.
