Role Description -

Our Digital and eCommerce division is looking to transform the Digital and eCommerce technology engine for Merck Life Sciences.  As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in helping to design and build new features and components in our evolving platform. You will build, maintain, and provide expertise in cloud-based applications as you help deliver the team's roadmap to automation (CI/CD).

 

ABOUT OUR TECHNOLOGY

The Digital and eCommerce team currently operates several B2B websites and direct digital sales channels via a globally deployed cloud-based platform that is a growth engine for Merck’s life science business.  We provide a comprehensive catalog of all products, enabling our customers to find products and purchase products as well as get detailed scientific information on those products.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work as part of an Agile development team, taking ownership of one or more services.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements & automation with Digital Infrastructure & Monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot issues across our eCommerce GCP services and applications.
  • Ensure compliance regarding backups, disaster recovery, data privacy, and security.
  • Keep cloud environments stable and secure to prevent downtime and security breaches.
  • Make hardware and software recommendations based on operational and project needs.
  • A willingness to embrace change and foster a Growth and Learning culture on the team.
  • Mentoring team members through code review, and design reviews.
  • Work with product owners to help refine the backlog, breaking down features and epics into executable stories.
  • Have a high-quality software mindset – making sure that the code you write works.

  

 Qualifications:

 

Minumum Requirements:

 

  • 5+ years of hands on software engineering experience
  • Expertise with infrastructure as code, containerization, Kubernetes, and Harbor
  • Experience with DevOps principles and practices, including design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines, deployment, and operational support.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Gitlab.
  • Experience with Application Performance Monitoring & Telemetry systems like Dynatrace

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent. Computer Science, or other technology-related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Cloud Engineer.  

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong system administration experience including Unix/Linux OS, WAF, load balancers, and DNS.
  • Knowledge of OS, middleware, databases, NoSQL, ESB, Integration, APIs, Web services, and/ or REST.
  • Expertise with log and analysis tools.
  • Understanding of Agile and software development lifecycle.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work with global virtual teams and be a team player.
