Your Role:

Our Digital IT team is looking to transform the digital technology engine supporting our Contract Testing portfolio. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building new features and components for our evolving platform while embracing modern principles such as microservices and event-driven architectures.

About Our Technology

The Digital and eCommerce team operates several websites and direct digital sales channels through a globally deployed, cloud-based platform that serves as a growth engine for Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany’s Life Science business.

We provide a comprehensive catalog of products and services, enabling customers to find and purchase products and services while accessing detailed scientific information about them.

Essential Job Functions

• This is a hybrid role, onsite 3 days per week  -  St. Louis, MO, Spruce Street
• Work as part of an Agile development team, taking ownership of one or more services.
• Take ownership of features and epics as part of a team, ensuring excellence in design, coding, testing, and operations.
• Embrace change and foster a culture of growth and continuous learning within the team.
• Mentor team members through code and design reviews.
• Work with Product Owners to refine the backlog and break down features and epics into executable user stories.
• Maintain a high-quality software mindset, ensuring that the code you write is reliable, maintainable, and fit for purpose.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering , or other technical field
• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent hands-on experience with Java, developing REST services and unit testing frameworks.
• Ability to develop solutions based on business requirements.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work with global teams and maintain a flexible work schedule.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, customer-centric approach and excellent communication skills.
• Experience with microservices, CI/CD, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud environments, such as Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services.
• Familiarity with web technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS; data manipulation using SQL; and version control systems such as GitHub.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and principles, Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and the product development lifecycle.
• Familiarity with modern web APIs and full-stack frameworks.
• Experience with Java, Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Contract Testing is a plus.

Pay Range for this position: $81,300 - $124,100/year

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
