Your role:
As Head of Global Development Operation China:
- Provide leadership, drive performance, steer strategic direction and ensure strong operational oversight for all activities and personnel (inclusive of FSP team members) for assigned country/cluster countries/region
- Accountable for ensuring the development of long-term relationships with clinical investigators and sites, enhancing the image and reputation of the company, and for providing an interface between the company and the CRO at the global/regional/country level
- Act as a point of escalation and critical interface with our external partners at the regional/country level to drive adherence to timelines/budgets as well as resolve functional concerns or trends contributing to delivery challenges/issues
- Accountable for aligning on priorities at the global/regional/local level with medical and commercial organization for clinical development and life-cycle management plans/strategies.
- Strongly contribute to the overall performance of CDPC and GDO, recommending strategies for new systems, tools, and processes, enhancing efficiencies and effectiveness to improve the clinical study delivery process and elevate region/country performance in collaboration with other functions
- Ensure proper conduct and support for any inspections (e.g. from Health authorities) applicable for the Local or Global department
- Continuously monitor performance of assigned staff against applicable practices and expectations, addressing any deficiency and providing coaching and mentoring as required in order to establish and maintain high performing teams
Who you are:
- B.S. or M.S. in the natural sciences (e.g., chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biology, medicine) and/or another scientific/technical drug development discipline; PhD and/or certification/fellowship in drug development preferred
- At least 10 years of drug R&D and clinical operations experience in pharma/biotechs or CROs, including extensive experience in study management, and data management in highly matrixed organizations
- Excellent understanding of the practical aspects of clinical research and the commercial value potential of clinical assets in relevant markets
- Understanding of business processes and requirements for R&D in China, including experience balancing individual project priorities with overall portfolio objectives
- Track record of gaining alignment across R&D functions and business units to balance priorities in China with global strategy
- Thorough command of the global drug development and regulatory framework as well as the submission and market authorization process in China
- Track record of solid judgment when assessing trade-offs between cost and effectiveness
- Solid track record of CRO/vendor selection and management
- Solid track record of establishing good relationships with sites and investigators
- Experience leading training programs (analysis, design, delivery, evaluation)
- Previous line management experience with multiple direct reports
- Broad management experience in negotiation, issue resolution, consensus building, and conflict management, with at least 5 years managing diverse groups
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, manage, mentor, and develop teams in a multi-cultural, cross-functional matrix
- Experience leading multidisciplinary groups through business and operational transformation in pharmaceutical R&D
- Fluency in English and Chinese (oral and written, preferred but not mandatory); other regional languages appreciated
- Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time
