Your Role:
Overall job purpose
The Site Operation Technology Engineer, as the subject matter expert (SME) for the OT systems in the responsible area, is fully responsible for the automation and control systems and other OT systems in the designated area, including implementation, maintenance, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, testing, and providing related engineering and technical support, ensuring the OT/Computerized system adhere to GMP and IT/OT Cyber Security requirement.
Leading or supporting the execution of Smart Manufacturing, Digital Transformation, and Data Historian projects locally, as well as maintaining the newly added IT/OT infrastructure and services.
Responsibilities
- OT System Implementation and Maintenance
- EN managed OT system lifecycle management, including daily system and application management to ensure that OT systems meet availability, data integrity, and confidentiality requirements. Responsible for access management, audit trail review, system backup and restoration, as well as requirement confirmation, design, implementation, acceptance, upgrade, or decommissioning management.
- Responsible for the OT systems managed by the EN department together with team members, including manufacturing process control systems such as fluidized bed, tablet press, and packaging line, logistics control systems like ASRS/WCS, utility control systems such as BMS/EMS, as well as other general automation control systems like industrial computers, PLCs, and HMIs.
- Responsible for the infrastructure confirmation work within the scope of GAMP1 for site OT systems.
- Support validation SME in completing the validation work of GAMP 3/4/5 computerized systems for EN managed OT systems, including CSV activities such as URS/FAT/SAT/DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ.
- Responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of site IT/OT infrastructure, including architecture design, network planning, endpoint protection, backup, network behavior detection, remote access, as well as cabling and client setup.
- Established and maintain the SOPs regarding to the OT field, make sure that complaint with regulations.
- Knowledge summarization and training to enhance the skills of the team and relevant personnel, ensuring the application of best practices.
- Project Management
- Lead the delivery of related projects for EN managed OT systems, including traditional automation upgrades, Digital plant transformation migration, Data Historian, and other upcoming Merck digital transformation projects, ensuring efficient project execution while meeting GxP and business requirements.
- Support the implementation of site Capex projects.
- Proactively communicate with stakeholders and collaborate across departments to ensure project delivery.
- Technical Support and continuous improvement
- Lead system troubleshooting and continuous optimization, providing professional technical support for business and on-site maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs and data integrity requirements.
- Support troubleshooting related to automation in the Engineering and Maintenance department and lead technical improvements related to automation in the engineering department.
- Communication and Coordination
- As the OT system subject matter expert managed by the engineering department, lead proactive communication with global IT/OT and local teams, coordinating resources to resolve issues.
- Provide 24-hour technical support for business urgent needs, including on-call assistance and on-site support for urgent matters.
- Strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation, actively completing tasks assigned by the line manager.

Skills, Performances & Competences required by the position:
- Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Master professional skills in the implementation and maintenance of IT/OT systems and automation control systems, such as servers, virtual machines, network switches, network communication, databases, operating systems, SCADA, OSI PI, industrial computers, robots, AGVs, PLCs, HMIs, TCP/IP, and fieldbus technologies.
- Master at least one programming language, such as SQL, Oracle, C, or Python, as well as tools like QL Server、Visual Studio、WinCC、Step7/TIA Portal.
- Strong project management skills with a focus on technical and business alignment.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities, both Chinese and English.
- Fast learner and problem-solving skills.
- Education and Experience:
- Graduated from key universities with a bachelor's degree or higher in related majors such as Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Automation, etc.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Automation control technology、IT/OT system management and maintenance, it is preferred to have experience in Smart Manufacturing, Digital Plant Transformation, and Cybersecurity remediation projects.
