Our projects have changed the way we operate at our company. We call these use cases, which is when our data has been used for the benefit of our business. Here are some exemplary use cases that give you a flavor of what you could be working on.
Flight Risk Estimation, Group Functions
Are our talents in danger of leaving? Our People Data & Technology team uses flight risk estimations and its strong predictive power to let us understand potential structural reasons why an employee would leave the company. Machine Learning models predict which factors are relevant, letting HR professionals take preventive actions.
MCloud4Finance Project, Group Functions
A cross-functional team building the data foundation for digital finance
Their challenge: to meet the organizations thirst for more data and making the finance function smarter, faster and more agile. The team implemented MCloud4 Finance giving our organization a single source for financial reporting and data integrity for all views of finance data across the company. Decision making is now based on curated, cleansed and globally harmonized information. A cutting edge, in-memory-technology forms the backbone of the technical platform, enabling the fast processing and querying of vast data sets.
FLUX: The Digital Opportunity Locator, ACE
Our FLUX use case was developed by the Analytics Centre of Excellence (ACE) in Life Science. Launched in 2019, FLUX gives more than 450 global marketing colleagues the ability to:
- define complex conditions for expected buying patterns;
- capture insights of the primary characteristics driving workflow sales; and
- use a suite of analytical tools and workflow definitions to target business drivers and identify cross-selling opportunities.
To date, our domain experts have translated their intimate knowledge and experience of the market into over 145 workflows that power the solution. A one-stop shop, FLUX provides a central location to record, maintain, and view workflows, applications, bundles and kits. Key analysis features allow proactive discovery of new business and lead to more successful data-driven marketing campaigns. Today, FLUX is used by all Life Science divisions and businesses.
COMPASS: Finding the Right Customer at the Right Time, The Life Science Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE)
Our ACE Data Science Team continues to give our salesforce a competitive advantage by identifying opportunities before the competition. How? Based on the analysis of large, complex internal and external data, the team built COMPASS. Launched in 2018, COMPASS enables sales representatives to access prioritized information about the most attractive potential customer. Based on learnings from previous customer encounters, the tool uses an adaptive Machine Learning Model to predict which biotech companies are looking for a partner to outsource process development and manufacturing for their drug candidate.
COMPASS became one of the major sources for generating sales opportunities. This led to above average growth of the business and higher profitability due to more efficient use of resources. The tool‘s success has led to an impressive expansion and various adaptations for an increasing number of Life Science businesses.
Boost, Electronics
In our semiconductor business (within Electronics), we have seen a change in the demand from our customers when it comes to quality. In order to support this shift, we need to be more data-driven, we need to understand our materials even better and integrate our data with our customers. As the industry advances to new technology nodes and introduces new materials, we have hundreds of very precise production steps that we take to support them. Our project Boost works on a new approach to material quality by implementing a future-oriented and scalable, real-time system for data sharing. Boost leverages our Industry 4.0 capabilities such as automation and data analysis across business units to provide customers with better materials and services.
Using artificial intelligence to study cancer, Biopharma, Healthcare
The Development of new cancer drugs is supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our computer and data scientists are cooperating with pathologists and biologists in a new area being referred to as digital pathology. Their goal? To enable computers to precisely identify which of our therapies could be effective for cancer patients. The team is training the system with tissue sample images from hundreds of patients. Data scientist then are developing the AI analyses for this. Each high-resolution image is about one gigabyte in size and requires the computing power of the high-performance cluster, a cabinet-sized computer at the Darmstadt site. With that, we can now train AI so that it can distinguish the tumor types better than some physicians.
