Start date: July 2025

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Aubonne, Switzerland

Your role:

This 6-month internship offers Master's thesis students the opportunity to work on a project focused on leveraging bioprocess data to enhance understanding, develop mathematical models, and optimize processes involved in the production of complex proteins using CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells. These bioprocesses are critical for manufacturing high-value biological products, such as therapeutic proteins.

The student will analyze collected process data to gain insights into key parameters influencing protein production, build mathematical or machine learning models, and propose optimization strategies to improve yield, efficiency, and process robustness. To achieve this, a combination of statistical analysis, explicit mathematical modeling, and advanced data science approaches will be employed. This internship provides an exciting opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to a highly impactful area in biotechnology and biomanufacturing.

Your profil:

  • C urrently pursuing a master’s degree in mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a similar field[NEO1] willingness to learn about the healthcare industry
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex datasets and extract meaningful insights related to CHO-based bioprocesses.
  • Mathematical modeling: Proficiency in developing mathematical models for biological systems and processes.
  • Machine learning: Familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) to model and predict key bioprocess metrics.
  • Programming skills: Experience with Python, R, or MATLAB for statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation.
  • Statistical knowledge: Solid foundation in statistics, including regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Optimization techniques: Knowledge of optimization algorithms (e.g., linear programming, evolutionary algorithms) to refine process parameters.
  • Data visualization: Proficiency in tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Matplotlib for presenting findings effectively.
  • Communication skills: Ability to document results clearly and present them to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bioprocess tools: Exposure to software tools used in bioprocess monitoring and control (e.g., PAT, SCADA systems).
  • Bioprocess understanding: Familiarity  with bioprocess engineering principles, particularly those related to CHO cell culture and protein production.

What we offer: We are curious minds that come from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences. We celebrate all dimensions of diversity and believe that it drives excellence and innovation, strengthening our ability to lead in science and technology. We are committed to creating access and opportunities for all to develop and grow at your own pace. Join us in building a culture of inclusion and belonging that impacts millions and empowers everyone to work their magic and champion human progress!
