Expert - Business Managed Applications and IT Compliance - Life Science

 

Your Role:

 

As a member of Cyber Enablement & Compliance, you are a key contributor to the Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany Life Science (LS) Cyber Security team, working closely with LS business stakeholders and corporate Cyber Security.

Your primary purpose is to lead the governance and lifecycle of Business Managed Applications (BMAs) across the Life Science sector. This includes maintaining a comprehensive inventory and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, regulatory, and quality standards.

You will enable and guide business stakeholders to fulfil their BMA responsibilities through training and clear communication. Additionally, you will support IT Business Partners and Enterprise Architecture in aligning BMAs with business capabilities, advancing the enterprise architecture roadmap, and controlling the proliferation of BMAs.

You will coordinate with other Merck sectors to share best practices and suggest and implement improvements.

 

 

 

  • Own and maintain the Business Managed Applications (BMA) inventory for the Life Science sector.
  • Establish and strengthen BMA governance, quality management, and compliance processes; ensure required compliance attributes and controls are in place for BMAs (e.g., cybersecurity, information classification, data privacy, GxP).
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and communication through formal training and awareness sessions; train and support BMA Business Owners and Service Delivery Managers on their roles and responsibilities and help them complete required assessments and registrations.
  • Support implementation of external regulatory and internal policy requirements.
  • Lead end-to-end vulnerability management activities for BMAs.
  • Lead audits and issue management related to BMAs, ensuring end-to-end tracking and closure of findings.
  • Coordinate with IT and Operational Technology (OT) stakeholders to maintain clarity of the overall Life Science application portfolio and delineate BMA roles and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with IT Service Management (SM) to ensure the SM structure, processes, and service taxonomy meet BMA requirements and are continuously improving.

 

Who You Are

 

You are a proactive IT professional with a passion for cybersecurity and compliance, ready to contribute to a dynamic, team-oriented culture.

 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant IT roles.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and underlying IT infrastructure and systems.
  • Cybersecurity expertise, including information classification, vulnerability management, and patching.
  • Experience managing and improving IT compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to assess complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Broad knowledge of project management methodologies with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; able to explain complex IT concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Professional, positive attitude with the ability to contribute to a dynamic, team-oriented culture.
