Manila based Payroll Team Lead overseeing US & Canada payroll (15k employees) leads daily operations, manages a team, ensures timely and accurate processing, handles escalations for complex issues, maintains compliance with US/CA tax laws, reconciles payroll, drives process improvements, collaborates with HR/Finance, and manages vendor relationships, requiring strong US/CA payroll knowledge, leadership, attention to detail, problem-solving, and system skills (UKG, SAP Success Factors/Employee Central).
Your Role:
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, train, and manage daily activities of payroll specialists, ensuring workload balance and high morale. Conduct performance appraisals.
- Payroll Operations: Oversee end-to-end processing (bi-weekly/monthly cycles), verify data, calculate wages, deductions, taxes, and ensure accurate direct deposits.
- Compliance & Accuracy: Guarantee adherence to all US federal/state (IRS) and Canadian federal/provincial laws (CRA, Revenue Québec), and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and internal policies.
- Issue Resolution: Serve as point of contact for escalations, resolving complex payroll inquiries, discrepancies, and employee concerns with urgency and professionalism
- Reporting & Reconciliation: Perform Gross-to-Net reconciliations and generate various pay-related reports.
- Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies, processes, and technology solutions to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
- Accuracy Rate: Percentage of error-free paychecks.
- Issue Resolution Time: Average time taken to resolve payroll tickets or employee disputes.
- Process Efficiency: Implementation of automation tools to reduce manual variance and processing time
Who You Are:
- Minimum of 5–7 years in payroll processing supporting US and Canada, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role within a Global Shared Services (GSS) or BPO environment.
- Specialized credentials such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) for US payroll or Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) for Canada are highly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of global HCM & Payroll platforms (e.g., SAP SuccessFactors/Employee Central, UKG) and advanced Excel for data analysis.
- Exceptional English communication skills to interact with North American stakeholders and explain complex legislative concepts
