The Role

The EHS Engineer/Specialist will work closely with the Safety Manager, and other techncial managers/engineers to drive improvements in existing EHS mangement systems, including compliance for the Cork site under the COMAH and Seveso regulations as well as providing techncial expertise as required.  

They will act as EHS Business Partner and provide EHS expertise to a series of manufacturing depts and core business functions e.g. utilities, laboratories, warehousing, new projects etc.

The EHS Engineer/Specialist is responsible for carrying out activities and programmes to ensure compliance with the site’s ISO 45001/ management including local and Corporate EHS management programmes.

The EHS Engineer/Specialist will lead/interact with regulatory bodies on regulatory compliance programmes and future change requirements as required. 

The EHS Engineer/ Specialist will measure, monitor, and evaluate site Health and Safety performance, according to established programs and drive continuous improvement. 

Duties Include:

•    Interpreting all regulatory changes and provide guidance and direction to Cork site operations to ensure full compliance with Health and Safety legislation, IE Licensing and ISO45001/ISO14001 Standard.
•    Providing EHS support to a dedicated site Operation to ensure compliance with Lower Tier SEVESO and ATEX requirements.
•    In conjunction with Process Safety Protocols, leading EHS assessment/ approval of all process and equipment changes for the operation. 
•    Maintaining relationships with the EHS team, Operational Area Managers and Functional Managers to develop and implement EHS strategies. 
•    EHS Business partner for core operations.
•    Leading digitisation program for High-Risk Work programs (E-Permit system).
•    Working closely with Regulatory Authorities, external and internal key stakeholders, and the local management team. 
•    Seeking out opportunities to continuously improve a proactive EHS operating culture. 
•    Involvement in site and EHS Goals & Objectives, Corporate Responsibility/ Sustainability goals
•    H&S Management Systems - Leading Audits and Inspections, compile EHS metrics and KPIs data, trending for Corporate EHS and site Management.
Who You Are

•    Degree suitable engineering/science discipline and/or a recognized Degree/Diploma in direct H&S.

•    >7 years’ experience in an EHS position.
•    Desirable experience in safe chemical management including Air Quality management programs and/or ergonomic industry design principles (machinery/equipment etc).  Experience in Life Science manufacturing or similar Seveso/COMAH industry setting. 
•    Involvement in major infrastructural projects from contractor management - compliant operation. 
•    Strong experience in regulatory interactions on regulatory licensing applications and liaisons.   
•    Demonstrated project management, program management and multi-tasking ability in large industry.
•    Specialist in H&S legislation and best practice in large scale industry. 
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
