Your role: 

We are currently hiring a Computational Chemist in our Science and Technology office. This key role will strengthen our Digital Chemistry team, driving digital innovation across our business sectors with data and digital technologies. The successful candidate is expected to independently deliver projects, developing simulation and AI-driven workflows in our pharma and life science pipelines, as well as in our chemical processes and material development sectors. You will ideate, contribute to, and develop new digital technologies grounded in computational chemistry and machine learning. Your efforts will play a significant role in raising the bar of our digital transformation journey through both inhouse developments and partnering with external academics and startups. You will communicate with our internal stakeholders, assisting them in understanding and implementing the most relevant technologies. In an environment that values open disagreement and decisive action, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team with global outreach. 

 

Digital Chemistry is part of our Group Digital Innovation organization within the Group Science and Technology Office. Our team challenges the status quo of all chemistry and materials processes in our sectors Life Science, Healthcare, and Electronics. We source in new technologies and build internal, user-oriented digital chemistry products. Our mandate is to support our labs with digital chemistry technologies, increase sustainability, reduce time from ideation to market, and increase impact to the group. We offer professionals the opportunity to boost their career, working in an interdisciplinary high-performance team that is focused on innovation in the intersection of business, chemistry and digital technology. This role can be operated from either Boston (USA), or Darmstadt in the Rhine-Main area (Germany).

 

Who you are:

  • Degree in Theoretical Chemistry, or a related field; PhD is a plus
  • Experienced in using scientific modeling and data analytics software libraries and programming languages, e.g., python or other languages
  • Experience in using high-performance computing systems
  • Strong publication record in computational chemistry, scientific modeling, or a similar area 
  • Excellent at communicating and operating in an international environment
  • Bonus: Industry experience or a track record of applying innovative solutions to materials projects
  • Bonus: Hands-on knowledge in generative AI or physics-driven modelling for chemistry
