Your Role:

We are seeking a Head of Application Laboratory Cosmetic Actives - Sunscreens - Biocides to join our Surface Solutions Cosmetic Technology team. The Surface Solutions business unit, a mid-sized multinational leader in the pigments industry, is subject to a planned divestment to the company Global New Materials International (GNMI), headquartered in China, as of August 1st 2025. This role will be part of the divestment. As Head of the Application Laboratory for Cosmetic Active Ingredients - Sunscreens - Biocides, located in the Rhein-Main area, Hoechst Industrial Park, you will manage the laboratory that deals with the application and performance testing (USP) of current and future cosmetic raw materials, particularly in the field of sun and skin care as well as biocides.  Your main role will be to implement processes for the evaluation and positioning of UV filters (both inorganic and organic), SPF boosters and other active ingredients in cosmetic formulations. Working and formulating with biocides is also an important part of the role. You will develop innovative formulations, applications and compelling demo tools to support the business, taking advantage of market and consumer trends. In this role, you will provide direct support to external customers, driving the development of more objective scientific approaches in cosmetic testing.

As a collaborative networker, you will provide technical support at laboratory level to both internal and external customers. You will liaise with testing institutes. You will also support and deliver technical presentations and contribute your expertise to training concepts for customers and internal stakeholders. Responding to technical enquiries from customers, sales teams and other stakeholders, as well as driving customer projects, is a key part of this role. Your participation in exhibitions, trade shows and conferences will facilitate knowledge sharing with customers.

Who you are:

• Master’s degree in cosmetics science, chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent
• 5-10 years’ (laboratory) experience in the cosmetic or relevant industry ideally with expertise in cosmetics science
• Being passionate for cosmetic products, very good knowledge about formulations, regulatory environment, and cosmetic raw materials
• Innovative and creative solution provider, project management skills
• Affinity to data and measurement technology
• Proven leadership, solid communication abilities, and organizational and collaborative skills
• Fluent German and English, further languages beneficial
• Willingness to travel 30%
