Your Role

Are you passionate about artificial intelligence and eager to make a real impact in cancer research? As an Intern in Computational Oncology, you will collaborate with a dynamic team to explore and implement cutting-edge agentic AI approaches that accelerate our biological research workflows. You will work alongside our team to advance our understanding of cancer biology and contribute to the discovery of new therapeutic strategies. The purpose of this role is to solve the challenge of applying agentic AI technologies, including automated knowledge collection, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases and agentic workflows, to support target prioritisation and early research programs.

The position is based in Darmstadt, Germany, and we offer a hybrid work model.

Who You Are

  • You are currently pursuing a master's degree in computational biology, computer science, bioinformatics, data science, or a related field with a strong interest in life sciences.
  • You have a solid understanding of AI and machine learning concepts, with hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) and a good understanding of agentic AI frameworks.
  • You are comfortable working with modern software development concepts, including APIs, data integration, and connecting heterogeneous tools and data sources into coherent workflows.
  • You are proficient in Python; knowledge of R is a welcome addition.
  • You are familiar with concepts such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCP, vector databases, and tool-use in agentic systems, or you are highly motivated to learn these rapidly.
  • You have a basic understanding of biology or molecular life sciences, sufficient to contextualise your work within an oncology research environment.
  • You are an enthusiastic, creative, goal-oriented, proactive and out-of-the-box thinker with a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, this matters especially as our team is on a learning journey alongside you.
  • You have excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • You are eager to share your knowledge and enable others to build on what you create.
