Your role:

As the Lead Expert Cost Controlling within the LifeScience Engineering & Technology group, you will develop a governance structure for a global team focused on the planning and execution of capital projects.  Projects in the Capital portfolio range from production expansion, equipment installation, and greenfield plant construction.

You will be part of a newly formed Global Project Controls team where you will identify, develop and implement best-in-class methods, systems and tools covering all aspects of cost control and reporting. As the Lead Expert for Cost Controlling you will work closely with the Lead Expert for Estimating and Planning & Scheduling.

To succeed in this role, you will need to leverage your expert knowledge, leadership and communication skills to actively support the integration and adaptation of newly developed processes within the organization. Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams and manage interactions between your team and key stakeholders.  

 

Location: Flexible, Darmstadt, Germany or US preferred

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, implement, and maintain a global standard for Cost Controlling, thriving to support best-in-class project delivery.
  • Identify, implement, and run a Global Cost Controlling Tool
  • Deliver tangible benefits such as standardization of WBS in order to achieve improved benchmarking.
  • Form a solid baseline for project governance and controls processes, including standards for cost reports and dashboards.
  • Provide project teams with improved transparency of performance against plans enabling them to proactively drive projects to succeed and make informed decisions.
  • Oversee project spend by creating valuations and cost reports, and clearly communicate variations to your team and internal stakeholders.
  • Support value engineering, optioneering, business case development and other related processes.
  • Actively manage and control costs within selected projects as well as ensure functional leadership of internal workforce and bought in cost control services.
  • Manage external service providers and contractors in execution of assigned project activities and deliverables to defined Company standards.

 

Who You Are:

  • Technical degree to minimum Bachelor level in Engineering or Cost Management, (Master’s level preferred)
  • 10+ years experience related to Cost Controlling for Capital projects of significant size and high complexity.
  • Experience and general practitioner knowledge of project controls, planning and cost estimating principles including different procurement strategies.
  • Good technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, processes and CSA
  • Experience with project approval and governance processes and frameworks
  • Ability to effectively identify, develop and lead high performing project teams and to set deliver realistic, challenging objectives.
  • Supervisory or Line Management experience and demonstrated success with stake holder management.
  • PMP or Professional Engineer certification or Advanced Degree in Engineering or MBA
