Location:

Location for the Lead Expert Estimating is flexible, including hybrid working arrangements within.  Preferred location is Darmstadt, GER or USA

Your Role:

As the Lead Expert Estimating within the LifeScience Engineering & Technology group, you will develop a governance structure for a global team focused on the planning and execution of capital projects.  Projects in the Capital portfolio range from production expansion, equipment installation, and greenfield plant construction.

You will be part of a newly formed Global Project Controls team where you will identify, develop and implement a standardized cost estimating methodology and evaluate available tools to professionalize estimating within the global Engineering & Technology group. As the Lead Expert for Estimating you will work closely with the Lead Expert for Cost Control and Planning & Scheduling.

To succeed in this role, you will need to leverage your expert knowledge, leadership and communication skills to actively support the integration and adaptation of newly developed method and tool within the organization. Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams and manage interactions between your team and key stakeholders.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Define, implement, and maintain a global standard for Estimating, thriving to support best-in-class project delivery.
• Identify, implement, and run a Global Estimating Tool
• Independent preparation of cost estimates in various planning phases, from Feasibility Study, Concept Design, Basic Design and Detail Design.
• Deliver tangible benefits such as the creation of internal benchmarks for various project phases and a structured external benchmarking to constantly challenge and optimize internal cost estimates.
• Support value engineering, optioneering, business case development and other related processes by defining the estimating requirements and hence providing transparent and reliable cost estimates to ensure projects cam make informed decisions.
• Participate in cost control in the execution phase by cross-checking actual versus target costs.
• Together with the Global Project Controls Team, form a solid baseline for project governance and controls processes, including defining and implementing risk analysis methods.
• Ensure functional leadership of internal workforce and bought in estimating services.
• Manage external service providers and contractors in execution of assigned project activities and deliverables to defined internal standards.
• Participate and represent LifeScience Engineering & Technology at global benchmarking events and committees. Actively use and build up an external expert network.

Who You Are:

• Technical degree to minimum Bachelor level in Engineering or Cost Management, (Master’s level preferred)
• 10+ years experience related to Estimating for Capital projects of significant size and high complexity.
• Experience and general practitioner knowledge of project controls, planning and cost estimating principles including different procurement strategies.
• Good technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, processes and CSA
• Experience with project approval and governance processes and frameworks
• Ability to effectively identify, develop and lead high performing project teams and to deliver realistic but challenging objectives.
• Supervisory or Line Management experience and demonstrated success with stake holder management.
• PMP or Professional Engineer certification or Advanced Degree in Engineering or MBA
