Ontology-Enabled Digital Process Development in Modular Stirred Tank Units

Your Role:

As part of Process Development, you will be working on developing digital solutions in the highly innovate field of modular plants. In your role you will focus specifically on a 2 L stirred tank unit, which is a highly versatile piece of equipment and used to operate many different process steps such as reaction, distillation, and crystallization. In this context, you will focus on standards-based ontological descriptions of the equipment topology and capabilities can facilitate faster and reliable process transfer between equipment instances. You will be tasked to instancing and implementing a knowledge graph to describe and connect the different domains process development for modularized process transfer. The position is intended to write a Master's thesis in cooperation with the TU Dresden. You should be willing to start on the 1st of April 2026.

Who you are:

  • An engineering student (in your final year) or Master's student (or comparable) in fields such as information systems engineering, chemical and process engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • You are a curious person interested in answering the following questions:
  1. How can existent ontological frameworks (e.g., MTP, ISA-88, DEXPI) be connected to describe all domains within the process development ecosystem?
  2. What semantic relationships are required to connect domains such process recipes, equipment capabilities, and operational parameters in the knowledge graph?
  3. What level of abstraction is required to create a unified knowledge graph to describe a multi-purpose STU?
  4. How can above worked out routines be integrated into an operating manual for such modular reactor to ensure a seamless handover between supplier and customer?

What we offer: We are curious minds that come from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences. We believe that this variety drives excellence and innovation, strengthening our ability to lead in science and technology. We are committed to creating access and opportunities for all to develop and grow at your own pace. Join us in building a culture of inclusion and belonging that impacts millions and empowers everyone to work their magic and champion human progress!
