Your Role:

MilliporeSigma in Oakville, Ontario is hiring a Distribution Supervisor.  The Distribution Supervisor oversees the efficient operation of the warehouse and distribution center ensuring that all activities are performed safely, accurately, and in compliance with company policies and regulations. This role involves supervising warehouse staff, managing inventory, optimizing workflow processes, and ensuring timely distribution of goods.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Leadership: Manage and lead a team of warehouse staff, taking responsibility for hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting performance evaluations. Serve as a backup during the vacations of the Associate Manager, Distribution Analyst, and Senior Lead, ensuring continuity of operations. Fostering a positive and productive work environment to promote teamwork and employee engagement among the staff. Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Inventory Management:  Oversee inventory control processes, which include monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and maintaining accurate record-keeping. Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and promptly address any discrepancies that arise. Coordinate with the purchasing and logistics departments to effectively manage stock replenishment, aiming to minimize stockouts and overstock situations to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Warehouse Operations:  Optimize the warehouse layout and processes to enhance efficiency and streamline workflows. Monitor and manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of goods to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment. Ensure the proper handling and storage of materials, adhering to both company and regulatory standards to maintain compliance and safety within the warehouse environment.
  • Logistics Coordination:  Oversee the scheduling and coordination of shipments and deliveries, collaborating closely with transportation providers and internal departments to ensure smooth operations. Resolve any issues related to shipment delays, damages, or discrepancies, ensuring that all challenges are addressed promptly to maintain efficient logistics and customer satisfaction.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting:  Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to warehouse operations, including order accuracy, on-time delivery, and inventory turnover. Analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed, ensuring continuous enhancement of operational efficiency and effectiveness within the warehouse.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation related to inventory, shipments, and operational procedures. Uphold safety standards and operational integrity within the warehouse environment.
  • Miscellaneous:  Be a member of the on-call emergency response team, available during and outside of business hours to address urgent situations. Also serve as a member of the First Aid responder team, providing critical support when necessary. Operate equipment such as reach and counterbalance forklifts, as well as pallet walkies, to facilitate warehouse operations. Work on process improvement and sustainability projects, collaborating with contractors on maintenance and various projects within the distribution center to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.

 

This position may include having to work outside of normal business hours.  

 

Physical attributes:

  • Lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and performing physical tasks related to warehouse operations
  • Standing, walking
  • Working in a warehouse setting, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and other environmental factors
  • Wearing a full-face respirator

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse or distribution center management
  • 3+ years of experience with direct supervision of 8+ employees

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or other business field
  • 1+ years of experience with WHMIS, Dangerous Goods, Spill-Team Response/Clean Up
  • 1+ years of experience with an ERP system, such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control procedures
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT) with the ability to prepare and present information to management
  • Experience with managing projects
  • Six Sigma experience
