Head of Spin-On Dielectrics (SOD) R&D Thin Film

Your Role:

Technology and people leadership of Spin-On Dielectrics (SOD) R&D organization

• Foster a Safety-First culture to ensure overall safety of SOD R&D facilities and team
• Direct the development of new products that meet customer expectations
• Partner with key stakeholders such as marketing, customer applications, and operations to understand customer needs and prioritize research activities
• Drive focus on productivity, speed of execution and customer satisfaction through effective project management, budgeting and resourcing
• Develop new strategic programs to build capabilities, including CAPEX planning
• Develop strong collaboration with the Organosilane team to expand SOD polymer portfolio
• Coach and develop managers and team leaders through regular dialog
• Build and maintain strong Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio
• Build a strong team by fostering an inclusive and psychologically safe environment and developing people to unleash their full potential
• Represent Merck by displaying technical excellence externally and internally
• Embrace and champion digital transformation 

Impact & Complexity

Accountable for leading and developing a highly differentiated capability for Merck by developing new SOD polymers and applications for customers for thin films used in advanced electronic devices. Responsible for solving or directing the resolution of problems of unique complexity impacting the long-term advancement of the business by building and leading teams that apply advanced technical reasoning and practical judgment. Continued advancement is essential to maintain a technical leadership position in this business.

Who You Are:

Education

Master or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Polymer Science or similar fields

Work Experience

• Semiconductor experience required
• Managerial experience in diverse roles and across regions
• At least 5 years of R&D experience
• New product development experience

• Strong knowledge of semiconductor technology (process/integration/equipment)
• Demonstrated Leadership and Change Management skills
• Proven ability to create and grow high performance teams
• Innovation Management for growth
• Ability to build trustful relationships and successfully navigate through a global matrix organization
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and influencing skills
• Proficiency in Japanese language strongly preferred
