Your Role:
Regional Legal Counsel position is a newly created role that complies with the highest legal and ethical standards. Regional Legal Counsel will advise the business and functional areas in their daily activities, focusing on APAC. This position will support the acquisition of the Surface Solutions business to Global New Material International and report to the General Counsel based in DA, Germany.
Location:
Tokyo or Onahama(Fukushima). Remote work is possible with the willingness to travel when necessary
Who You Are:
- Manage the execution of legal processes, services, and resources to achieve the company's objectives, strategies, and priorities within the legal department.
- Cultivate a thorough understanding of the business and industry to guide strategic decisions from a legal viewpoint.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards across the international jurisdictions in which the company operates.
- Deliver expert and strategic legal guidance to management on a range of legal issues, including contracts, litigation risks, business structure, labor laws, intellectual property, and regulatory concerns.
- Create and enforce legal procedures and policies to ensure compliance with relevant laws.
- Assist with internal projects, training, and processes while fostering cross-functional collaboration.
- Draft, review, and negotiate significant contracts, including commercial agreements, vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and employment contracts.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in the corporate commercial sector, including statutory changes, new enactments, and judicial precedents, while advising management on recent legal developments and their potential impacts.
- Apply effective risk management strategies and provide proactive counsel on potential legal challenges.
- Manage the legal BPO for regional topics
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Japan, the U.S., or another common law jurisdiction
- Approximately 5+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation)
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an internationally operating enterprise with general commercial knowledge, expert knowledge in areas like patents/trademarks, tax, corporate or other relevant legal areas are a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Hands-on mentality with the willingness to face the legal and business challenges of an agile global enterprise.
